General Student Server Questions
Q. What is a Student Server Account?
A. he Student Server is a Linux server that is available for students to use for class projects. If you are in on sort of Web Design, Programming or Unix/Networking class the chances are that you will need a Student Server account.
Q. How can I change my Studnet Server Password?
A. The only current way to change your Student Server password is to log into the Student Server shell account and use the passwd command to change your password. More information on how to do this can be found at http://student.santarosa.edu/Student_pswd.html
Q. How do I get a Student Server account?
A. You can sign up for a Student Server account at http://student.santarosa.edu/apply. You will need your Student ID and will need to be registered in the current semester in order to apply.
Q. I don't know my Student ID (SID), now what?
A. You can recover your Student ID and PIN Code by going to the student portal and selecting the 'I do not know my ID Number' or 'I do not know my Pin Code' links.
Q. Can I receive E-Mail on my Student Server account?
A. No. The Student Server is not a mail server, if you need a Santa Rosa Junior College e-mail account, you should apply for a @Bearcubs account.
Q. I signed up and can't remember my login information, help!
A. You can reset your password and obtain your login name by going to the account application page at http://student.santarosa.edu/apply. If you are still having trouble then you can contact the student help desk (http://www.santarosa.edu/it/student/support/) and request this information.
Q. Where do I get support for my Student Server account?
A. You can get support for the Student Server by going to http://www.santarosa.edu/it/student/support or by sending e-mail to email@example.com
Q. How do I get web space on my Student Server account?
A. Once you have yout student account setup, you can log into the Student Server using a SSH Secure Shell client. Once you are logged into the Student Server you will need to issue the command 'sudo wwwme' to create your web directory. Q. I need a database, how do I get one?
A. Once you have yout student account setup, you can log into the Student Server using a SSH Secure Shell client. Once you are logged into the Student Server you will need to issue the command 'sudo sqlme' to create your web directory. Q. Help! I lost my password, how do I reset it?
A. You can reset your password by going to the account application page. You will need your Student ID and PIN code in order to reset your password. After you reset your password, the next time you log into your Bearcubs account you will be required to change your password to something more secure.
