Connecting with SSH

SSHing to student.santarosa.edu
(remote terminal access and file transferring)

For security reasons, we only allow encrypted connections to student.santarosa.edu. The preferred method is SSH. We do not allow unencrypted FTP or telnet access.

The hostname will always be "student.santarosa.edu".

File transfers:

Either "SFTP" or "SCP" work equally well.

Windows:
We are currently recommending WinSCP, from sourceforge.net which is free and easy to use.
The program used in the SRJC computer labs is SSH Secure Shell Client for Windows.
MacOS X:
Fugu, from the University of Michigan is a reasonably easy to use SFTP client for MacOS X.

Terminal access:
Windows:
We have Putty SSH from greenend.org.uk
The program used in the SRJC computer labs is SSH Secure Shell Client for Windows.
MacOS X:
Open up a Terminal (under Applications find Utilities; Terminal should be in there) and type "ssh your-user-name@student.santarosa.edu" (i.e.: John Smith would type jsmith@student.santarosa.edu); you should already have the necessary software installed.
